Schizophrenia Fellowship Queensland Inc

Volunteers

The Fellowship relies heavily upon the contribution of volunteers in all its activities. Volunteer activities include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Working in the Library
  • Convening the Social Club
  • Administration support
  • Working in the Royal Brisbane Show Cloakroom
  • Organising and participating in Schizophrenia Awareness Week activities
  • Working at the annual Art Exhibition
  • Facilitating Support Groups
  • Project Development

    Job Details

    Require volunteers as Counter Staff, Packers and Runners throughout EKKA
    Skills Required

    Money management, communication skills, organisational skills (packing)
    Personal Characteristics

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team, knowledge or desire to gain knowledge regarding mental illness, neat presentation
    Skills to be Gained

    Conflict resolution, dealing with the public, knowledge and experience in working with individuals with mental illness
    Times of Job

    A series of 6 hour shifts are available throughout the EKKA between 8am and 10pm. This includes weekends and public holidays.
    Work environment

    Volunteers work collaboratively within volunteer groups in the EKKA Cloakroom.
    Training

    Occurs on the job. There is some potential for one to one training

    Volunteer Position  - Art Exhibition Hosts

    Job Details

    Require volunteers to man the Exhibition sales tables, facilitate tours of the Exhibition, opening and closing the Exhibition (including set up and pack up)
    Skills Required

    Money management, communication skills, public speaking skills, physical skills.
    Personal Characteristics

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team, knowledge or desire to gain knowledge regarding mental illness, neat presentation
    Skills to be Gained

    Knowledge regarding Art, knowledge and experience in working with individuals with mental illness, sales and money management, dealing with the public.
    Times of Work

    Shifts available throughout Schizophrenia Awareness Week including weekends and evenings.
    Work environment

    Marquee in King George Square, working in small teams of volunteers supported by SFQ staff.
     

    Training


    Training session held prior to Schizophrenia Awareness Week.


    Volunteer Position   -   Social Club Activity Coordinators

    Job Details

    Volunteers required to facilitate activities in the SFQ Social Club for members
    Tasks

    Facilitate activities for members with mental illness. Activities could include but are not exclusive to art classes/groups, music classes/groups, poetry groups, cooking groups, discussion groups, women's health group, craft groups.
    Skills Required

    Group facilitation, special interest and skills (eg music), communication skills.
    Personal Characteristics

    Knowledge or desire to gain knowledge regarding mental illness, empathy, patience, willingness to learn.
    Skills to be Gained

    Include but are not exclusive to communication skills, experience in working with people with mental illness, patience, empathy.
    Times of Job

    Two hour shifts between 10 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday
    Work Environment

    Social Club is located underneath SFQ office space. Staff are available for support however, volunteer would be working independently with club members
